Meet the Candidates for Kearny Town Council and County Commissioner

Zayda Balcazar, 1st Ward

Zayda Balcazar is a lifelong resident of Kearny, a graduate of Kearny High School, and a proud mother of two children. She has over two decades of experience in banking and finance and is committed to promoting fiscal transparency and responsible spending.

Julio Huancaya, 2nd Ward

Julio Huancaya was raised in Kearny and is proud to be raising his own family here alongside his wife. As a father, Julio is committed to fully supporting public safety initiatives and addressing quality of life concerns of his neighbors. 

Edmund Shea, 3rd Ward

Ed is a lifelong Kearny resident and attorney experienced in financial services and government. He is a Commissioner with the Hudson County Improvement Authority and is a board member with the West Hudson Arts & Theater Company.

Orlando Miranda, 4th Ward

Orlando is a proud Army veteran who has dedicated his life to public service. He currently serves as an Undersheriff with the Hudson County Sheriff’s Office and is an active member of numerous veteran resource and support organizations.

Alex Valdez, County Commissioner

Alex Valdez is a nonprofit leader, nurse in training, and former Sergeant in the New Jersey Army National Guard. Born and raised in Kearny, he is a proud graduate of Kearny Public Schools and Rutgers–Newark, where he earned his Master’s Degree in Public Administration.
